NEC Corporation of America Named Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider

Collaboration to Bring Leading Open Source Solutions to the Public Sector

Irving, Texas - July 18, 2016 - NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading technology integrator of advanced IT, communications and networking solutions, today announced it has joined the Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider program, offering customers and independent software vendors (ISVs) greater confidence from a partner ecosystem when building their next-generation IT projects using Red Hat solutions. As a Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider, NEC will resell certified Red Hat offerings on-demand, via multi-tenant, dedicated and managed models.

Cloud provider models have expanded beyond multi-tenant public clouds to include private cloud build-outs, Linux container-based infrastructure and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions. The Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider program was created to offer additional flexibility to help solution providers better meet customer needs for cloud-based Red Hat technologies. By using a Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider, customers and partners using custom-developed or third-party ISV applications certified to Red Hat Enterprise Linux and other Red Hat solutions can have greater confidence that these applications will function as expected when using them on a public cloud or managed service provider.

"We are excited to become a Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider and to work with Carahsoft, a Red Hat government distributor, to deliver private cloud environments for demanding federal use cases, including compliance with various mandates," said Hide Senta, vice president of strategy and planning at NEC Corporation of America. "As an infrastructure technology company, we are well suited to deliver customized solutions based on Red Hat technologies and built upon the NEC Nblock architectures to the public sector and we look forward to expanding our capabilities and our reach within the public sector market."

NEC develops cloud platforms that use open source software including the Red Hat OpenStack Platform. With inclusion in Red Hat's Certified Cloud and Service Provider program, government agencies will now have access to a more secure, private cloud infrastructure designed, built and operated on Red Hat open source technology via NEC. NEC's cloud service can also help streamline the procurement of Red Hat subscriptions and offers pay-as-you-go pricing models, giving customers an opportunity to reduce costs.

NEC will also make its Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider services available through Iron Mountain's Data Center Marketplace. As the first technology infrastructure provider to join Iron Mountain's Data Center Marketplace, NEC's Private Cloud Services deliver a value-added portfolio Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Disaster Recovery as a Service, dramatically simplifying the delivery of these services for clients. Moreover, with the addition of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, NEC will also be able to add PaaS to its offerings.

"Red Hat is pleased to have NEC join Red Hat's Certified Cloud and Service Provider program," said Paul Smith, senior vice president and general manager of Red Hat's Public Sector in North America. "The solutions made possible with Carahsoft enable our public sector clients to simplify the cloud deployments with Red Hat's Open Source offerings. This collaboration is designed to help our public sector clients accelerate the adoption of cloud delivery, meeting the mandate for cloud first deployments."

Red Hat's Certified Cloud and Service Provider designation is awarded to Red Hat partners following validation by Red Hat. Each provider must meet testing and certification requirements to demonstrate that they can deliver a safe, scalable, supported and consistent environment for enterprise cloud deployments. The globally-unified program provides customers, ISVs, and partners with the confidence that Red Hat product experts have validated a given solution so that implementations can begin with a solid foundation.

"We are excited to see the continued growth of the Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider portfolio," said Natalie Gregory, vice president of Open Source Solutions at Carahsoft. "This expansion allows us to offer one of the first pre-packaged Red Hat IaaS Certified Cloud and Service Provider bundle to government agencies looking for a more secure private cloud environment, with simplified delivery of these services for our customers through the NEC-Iron Mountain partnership."
