NEC Selected as TechTarget 2015 Silver Product of the Year

Irving, Texas February 22, 2016 - NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading provider and integrator of advanced IT, communications, managed services and biometric solutions, today announced that its HYDRAstor 4.4 storage platform has been selected as Silver winner in the Storage magazine/SearchStorage.com 2015 Products of the Year Backup Hardware category.

In the 14 previous years, Storage magazine and SearchStorage.com asked technology vendors for data storage systems products nominations for the Products of the Year awards, which recognize new or upgraded storage products. This year's data storage systems finalists were judged by a panel comprised of a cross-section of users, analysts, consultants and Storage magazine and SearchStorage.com editors. The products were rated according to their innovation, performance, ease of integration, ease of use, functionality and value.

Judges lauded HYRDRAstor 4.4 as the most scalable target dedupe appliance. The scale-out, Linux-based system can scale linearly up to 165 hybrid storage nodes. "It's amazingly engineered but often ignored," said one of our judges of NEC HYRDRAstor 4.4. "It's very feature-rich and it has great OST."

At the time of award nomination, NEC 's HYDRAstor 4.4 was the latest version of NEC's scale-out grid storage system for backup, archiving and content repositories that can be configured for up to 4 PB an hour throughput and 100 PB of data in a single system with inline global deduplication. The key feature of the HYDRAstor 4.4 release is Universal Dedupe Transfer that significantly increases the maximum performance of HYDRAstor for general applications running on Linux and eliminates the need to transfer deduplicated data blocks from applications to HYDRAstor to reduce bandwidth use.
