Irving, TX - March 9, 2017 - NEC Corporation of America's (NEC) massive
digital transformation project was recognized by the Dallas CIO Leadership Association (DallasCIO), the preeminent professional association
for North Texas senior technology executives. NECAM Vice President of IT Juan Fontanes accepted the 2017 Dallas CIO of the Year Orbie
Award - Corporate, representing NECAM and the teams responsible for activities in support of the company's digital transformation.
Since its inception in 1998, over 300 CIOs nationally have been honored as finalists and over 90 CIO of the Year winners have received the
prestigious ORBIE Award. This year, more than 140 nominations were received for the CIO of the Year Awards. Finalists and winners were
selected by prior CIO of the Year ORBIE Award winners and CIO peers, based upon contributions to innovation, leadership, business
value and community engagement.
"The individuals who have earned these awards are the best and brightest leaders - not just within North Texas IT executives, but in the
categories they represent," said Lisa LaRoque, Executive Director of DallasCIO. "In today's interconnected world, organizations that win
in the marketplace benefit from the superior strategic planning and day-to-day execution these CIOs bring to the table."
Along with the company's digital transformation, other notable accomplishments included the implementation of an enterprise resource
planning (ERP) system that integrated data systems from different corporate functions into a single streamlined system, the build-out and
installation of an advanced data center, as well as the relocation of systems and network functionality for the new corporate headquarters
campus. NEC's contributions to the local community were also noted, such as the installation of a NEC donated computer lab at the Irma
Rangel Young Women's Leadership School located in Dallas, Texas.
"We had people from every business unit and corporate function working as a team to plan and execute this massive project," said Juan.
"The recognition of 'CIO of the Year' couldn't have been accomplished without the great contributions from everybody on that project team.
I was honored to lead this effort and be a part of our contributions to the local community."
"Juan, the IT team and those that worked on the project team have made tremendous contributions to the company that significantly improved
our IT capabilities," said Shin Takahashi, President and CEO of NEC Corporation of America. "Our network environment is much improved and
we have a solid and reliable data center that provides industry leading service to our customers."
